British higher education guide for parents of Chinese students
The parents of Chinese students thinking of coming to study in the UK are to benefit from a new dedicated guide to higher education at Nottingham Trent University. The Parents’ Guide has been compiled by Nottingham Trent University and is thought to be the first publication created by a UK institution to be aimed solely at Chinese students’ parents.
The Parents’ Guide includes interviews with current students about their time at Nottingham Trent University and looks at the benefits of studying in the city as well as issues regarding accommodation and funding. It aims to provide parents with information on the UK higher education system and which factors need to be considered when helping their children to choose the University.
The guide was recently launched at a Nottingham Trent University Alumni and Friends’ Reception at the Beijing Peninsula Palace. Nottingham Trent University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Neil Gorman, attended as part of a week-long visit to mainland China and Hong Kong.
Other highlights of the visit included a major seminar on enterprise and higher education at the British Council in Beijing and another Nottingham Trent University Alumni and Friends’ Reception at the prestigious Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Hong Kong.
Meetings with representatives from the Hangzhou Municipal Government and Zhejiang Province also took place as part of an ongoing partnership with the University. The institution’s Nottingham Business School is delivering a full-time Masters in Public Administration (MPA) course to Chinese officials to develop vital skills at a time when all areas of government, the economy and business in China are undergoing dramatic changes.
Nottingham Trent University’s International Development Director, Tim O’Brien, said: "The numbers of international students choosing to study at Nottingham Trent University continues to rise, largely due to our exceptional employability record and our commitment to giving our students a truly international education."
He added: "Of course, it is parents who are likely to be funding much of the study cost and we see The Parents’ Guide as a vital component in ensuring that parents understand what we do as a university and how we deliver education to their children."
