A successful season for sport
Nottingham Trent University has won the British University Sports Association’s (BUSA) award for ‘Most Improved University’ climbing an impressive 17 BUSA places in just one year – from 43rd to 26th. Comprised of 149 universities, the BUSA league table reflects the success of each institution in a variety of sports with league points awarded for individual and team achievements throughout the year.
For Nottingham Trent University, particularly strong performances from the Canoe Club - who swept the board in BUSA competitions this year - along with success for the netball and women’s football teams have all contributed to the university’s significant rise in the BUSA rankings.
This success is the latest in a long line of recent sporting achievements for the university, including listings as an approved training camp for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics; hosting the East Midlands National Performance Centre for hockey; and winning the varsity sports series against local rivals the University of Nottingham. The university is also one of only 13 national hubs for the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) which encourages talented athletes to compete at the highest level whilst continuing their studies.
Director of Sport and Lifestyle, James Hayter, said: “We’re seeing more and more sporting success here at the university and we’ve got some fantastic achievements to our name. This past year has been our most successful yet and we’re looking forward to achieving even more in the future!”
