Spotlight falls on film-maker as Nottingham Trent University announces honorary degrees
A leading figure from the world of film is to receive an honorary degree from Nottingham Trent University. Oscar-winning producer Lord Puttnam is among a number of distinguished personalities being presented with honorary doctorates at the university’s summer awards ceremonies, which will take place from 15 to 18 July.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Neil Gorman commented: “Our honorary degrees not only recognise distinctive achievements on the regional, national and international scene but also reflect the university’s flourishing links with the wider community.
“This year we are delighted to be honouring influential figures who have had a major impact in walks of life such as law, education, urban planning, fashion, scientific research, criminology, public affairs and the creative industries.”
Lord Puttnam will receive the Honorary Doctorate of Science for his extraordinary contribution to the cultural landscape of the UK, including his support for Nottingham’s GameCity festival.
Honorary degrees are also being presented to:
- Former Director General of the Office of Fair Trading, Sir Bryan Carsberg - in recognition of his influential role in the development of the surveying profession.
- Former Director of Planning, Transport and Highways for Nottingham City Council, Adrian Jones - in recognition of his success in integrating planning, transport, highway design, urban design and conservation.
- Founder of Studio Edelkoort and Trend Union, Li Edelkoort - in recognition of her work to pioneer trend forecasting as a profession.
- Headteacher of Greenwood Dale School in Nottingham, Barry Day - in recognition of his contribution to the education of young people in the city.
- Partner at McKinsey and former head of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, Sir Michael Barber - in recognition of his vital contribution to reforms in public management and services.
- Forensic psychologist Professor Ken Pease - in recognition of his distinguished contributions to crime-related research, public policy and practice.
- Lord Saville of Newdigate, Law Lord and Chair of the Bloody Sunday Inquiry - in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Bar, the Judiciary and the legal profession.
- Professor Alejandro Madrigal, Scientific Director of the Anthony Nolan Trust - in recognition of his groundbreaking work in the field of bone marrow transplantation
- A posthumous Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws will be presented to Jonathan Flynn on behalf of his father, Desmond Flynn, who unfortunately passed away in March this year. Mr Desmond Flynn is being honoured in recognition of his significant contribution to public affairs, public administration and law reform in the field of insolvency law and practice.
