Football legend drops in on soccer camp
England's under 21s football manager, Stuart Pearce, visited Nottingham Trent University during the Football Association's Young Leadership Camp 2008. The initiative, held at the University’s Clifton campus, aims to educate youngsters on all areas of football including coaching, refereeing, football science and safeguarding children.
More than 100 16-18-year-olds attended the week-long camp, selected via regional events organised by the county football associations. Former England and Nottingham Forest legend Pearce spoke at the camp closing ceremony, and congratulated the young leaders on a very successful week for all involved.
Four of the attendees will now be given the chance to travel to South Africa for the FA’s International Placement Programme, to help support and run coaching sessions for children.
The Director of Sport and Lifestyle at Nottingham Trent University, James Hayter, said: "The camp was a blend of practical and theory work, held in both the sports hall and our all weather pitch. It was a fantastic experience for the young leaders and was a real honour for us to host the camp at Nottingham Trent University. And seeing Stuart Pearce, who is obviously one of football's biggest names, was a real treat for the youngsters.”
