Employment fair aiming to build brighter futures

Employers are still actively recruiting despite the current credit crunch and will be attending a Property, Design and Construction Fair at Nottingham Trent University on 5 November. The fair, in the university’s Djanogly International Centre, follows the success of last year’s event, when hundreds of students attended, with many securing job offers, work placements and sponsorship for studies.

Representatives from the industry will provide information and advice on a range of opportunities, and careers advisers will be on hand giving job-hunting tips and checking CVs and application forms. As well as employment opportunities, students can learn more about the range of postgraduate study options available at the university. Employers attending include major private sector businesses – such as Balfour Beatty, BAM Nuttall and Faithful and Gould – as well as public sector representatives from local authorities.

The event has been organised by the university’s Careers Service, in conjunction with its School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment. The School has a proven track record of turning out high-calibre graduates – along with a strong reputation for providing challenging, highly-regarded and professionally-accredited courses.

“Despite the financial crisis, major employers from across the UK are still actively recruiting and see this fair as a way of reaching the highest-calibre graduates,” said Nottingham Trent University’s Head of Careers Advice and Employment, Paul Hacking.

“Civil engineering firms are still recruiting well, as are construction firms involved in longer term projects such as building schools, prisons and hospitals,” he added.

The fair was launched last year after a request from construction and property related companies who wanted help tackling a shortage of professional skills in the industry being experienced due to an increase in construction output.
