New fellows will stimulate research activity
The appointment of a new team of research fellows at Nottingham Trent University is set to provide a massive boost to the institution’s powerful research culture. A dozen fellows have joined the university’s School of Art and Design and School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, as part of a strategic push to further develop their vital research activity.
The team brings with it an array of innovative and exciting research areas covering property and construction management, product design, sustainable design, interactive arts, graphic design, fashion and textiles, photography, visual arts and drawing. And coming from ten different countries, the team also complements the Schools’ existing international communities.
All based at the university’s City campus, the fellows will pursue their own research interests as well as supporting permanent academic staff by helping them to build on their grant capture programme. Their appointment came after the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) submission, the results of which are published in December, informing the distribution of funds to universities by the UK higher education funding bodies.
“We’re really excited about these new appointments, which will contribute to keeping the Schools and Nottingham Trent University at the forefront of cutting-edge research,” said Professor Judith Mottram, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies.
She said: “That these appointments came after the RAE submission is a clear message that we are not sitting back awaiting its results. We are determined to continue investing in new opportunities that stimulate research activity and collaborations between fellows and academic teams. We are actively exploring ways to continue working for the future by encouraging the development of our research portfolio, and these fellows will play a major part in that.”
Research Fellow and art historian Marta Filipova – who studies the idea of national identities in art and visual art – said: “I’m really excited to be working alongside academics in the School of Art and Design. It will give me the chance to continue my research, currently looking at post Second World War political art in different countries, as well as helping to drive forward the many exciting research projects and ideas currently taking place across the visual communications team here.”
