'Managing talent in the public sector' - Nottingham Business School to welcome Director-General for the department for work and pensions

One of the UK’s leading Human Resources professionals, Chris Last, will be visiting Nottingham Trent University’s Nottingham Business School to speak on the topic of Talent Management. The Director-General of Human Resources for the government’s Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), has been invited to deliver a speech at the School’s latest Talent Management Forum, entitled ‘Managing Talent in the Public Sector’, on Friday 21 November 2008.

Organised by Nottingham Business School’s International Centre for Talent Management and Development, the event will bring together senior managers, directors and other representatives from employer organisations across the public sector. Many of these organisations are under increasing pressure to improve standards of performance and service, and strong and well focussed strategies with which to achieve these results are now heavily reliant on practices in the field of talent management.

Chris Last joined the DWP in 2008 following 28 years of employment with Ford, where he held a variety of roles covering a range of HR functions. His priority now, is in developing and improving the human resources within the DWP to be the best within the Civil Service and the UK. With over 10,000 employees, the DWP delivers functions such as Jobcentres, the Disability and Carers Service, the Pension Service and the Child Support Agency.

Professor Carole Tansley from Nottingham Trent University’s Nottingham Business School said: “It will be an honour to welcome Chris as a guest speaker at this event. His knowledge, experience and expertise in the field of Human Resource Management are unparalleled, and I’m sure his insight on the topic of talent management will provide our guests with much food for thought. My colleague, Professor Lynette Harris, will also be presenting a session on ‘Making talent management happen – challenges for the public sector’".

This free event will take place from 12pm – 16.30pm on Friday 21 November 2008, at Nottingham Trent University’s Djanogly International Centre on Clarendon Street, Nottingham. Places are strictly limited, but can be booked by contacting Nottingham Trent University on +44 (0)115 848 8732.
