Research consultancy
The School has an unrivalled reputation for attracting leading-edge projects from government, industry, law firms and their clients both in the UK and overseas. Our active researchers have many links in the UK and across the globe, most notably through the International and Comparative Criminal Trial Project. The School has recently carried out research for the Department of Constitutional Affairs, the European Union and the Insolvency Practices Council.
Industry links
Many Law School staff have previously practised as solicitors or barristers, and continue to provide consultancy to law firms across the UK. The School also provides in-house courses for law firms, including the ‘magic circle’, as well as national, regional and local law firms.
External funders and collaborators
The School is regularly approached by external funders and collaborators for research and advice, and it provided legal expertise to the European Lifestyles and Marine Ecosystems (ELME) project. Under a £2.5m EC Sixth Framework Programme, this multidisciplinary and multinational project has brought together marine scientists, environmental economists and other academics from 15 countries to model the past and future environmental impact of human lifestyles on Europe’s regional seas.
The School has also received funding from government bodies including the (then) Lord Chancellor’s Department, the Department of Trade and Industry’s Insolvency Service and the Insolvency Practitioners’ Council. Staff have also been awarded funding by ESRC, the Nuffield Foundation and the British Academy.
