Research Centres
Research is clustered in Research Centres, providing a focus for different themes with their underpinning platforms:
- Biomedical, Life and Heath Sciences Research Centre
- The John Van Geest Research Centre
- Physical Sciences, Engineering and Computing Research Centre
These Centres promote the research excellence and facilities within the School, and stimulate knowledge transfer, innovation and exploitation. They provide strategic direction in research planning and portfolio development, ensure that mechanisms are in place to nurture research and provide support and development opportunities in grant preparation and grant management.
The impact of research knowledge and facilities on real world problems and challenges is facilitated through the Centre for Innovation and Technology Exploitation (CITE) and Scientific Services to Industry (SS2i). CITE is a scheme established to help regional companies explore the impact of using emerging technologies within their business environment, and SS2i provides access to the expertise and technical facilities of the School.
The Research Centres are constantly working to enhance their impact within the community and local economy. Business engagement is achieved by both supporting the development of high calibre graduates and postgraduates and through involvement in a range of collaborative activities.
