School of Arts and Humanities
The School of Arts and Humanities invites applications from well qualified candidates, who have or expect to graduate with good first degrees or Masters level qualifications, to undertake doctoral studies in a range of the School’s subject areas.
The Graduate School offers a multidisciplinary research culture with a thriving postgraduate community and well-established staff / student research seminars. Students are supported by a training course in research practices, which provides a grounding in the methodologies and research skills that are essential to the professional researcher.
Research in the School is rich and diverse; with staff conducting internationally recognised and world leading research. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, 80% of research within the School was judged to be of international quality. Particularly strong areas include Communication, Culture and Media Studies, English, French and History, with other areas developing their profiles.
Researchers in the School work in collaboration with a range of scholars from across the academic community in Britain and Ireland as well as in North America, continental Europe and the Far East. This has the benefit of creating a varied and informed research community with links throughout the world that enhance the experience of research staff and research students. This international perspective helps to attract research students from across the world.
The School's website contains further information on research projects and staff research interests.
