Nottingham Business School

Nottingham Business School

As a ‘business school for business’, we combine excellence in research and education, with impact upon organizations and wider society. By empowering graduates to apply what they learn and by creating new forms of knowledge and knowledge partnership, we have a positive and transformative effect on business and management practice. This is encapsulated in our commitment to ‘transform business and industry through knowledge and people’. Any research we conduct aims to advance such theory and practice.

In recent years Nottingham Business School has seen a rapid expansion of research activity and this was confirmed by the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), where, with one of the largest submissions for a post 1992 university, 80% of the research submitted to the Business and Management Panel was classified as being of international standard.

Such recognition has provided a significant reputational boost to the research activities generated from within NBS and has provided a platform on which to build a stronger research culture throughout the School. In support of the growing stature of research across NBS we recognise the need to recruit and train high calibre postgraduate students across all subject disciplines.

As we finalise our submission for the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) we currently have some 50 students pursuing PhDs within the School as well as a much larger Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme. Given this scope, research is undertaken across a range of disciplines including economics, human resource management, information systems, marketing, accountancy and management, covering a range of issues including social, environmental and governmental concerns.
