Centre for Architecture, Heritage and Global Difference (AHGD)
The Architecture, Heritage and Global Difference (AHGD) research group focuses on built heritage and the humanities based study of architecture, material culture and the built environment within a fast evolving context of simultaneous globalisation and heightened awareness of difference.
Our work focuses on two key areas:
- architectural and urban history and theory
- identity, place, memory and modernity
Our underlying interest for both areas is the understanding of the mutually dependant relationship between culture, society and technology.
Our architectural and urban history and heritage related work has led to the emergence of the ARCHIAM Centre (Architectural and Cultural Heritage of India, Arabia and the Maghreb), with a current emphasis on collaborating with the Government of Oman to develop heritage management and development master plans for heritage settlements at risk.
We are an international team of researchers from a variety of academic backgrounds in architecture, social history, architectural technology, archaeology, conservation and digital documentation.
