Interactive Systems

This group focuses on the development and evaluation of novel Multimedia and Virtual Reality systems to promote social inclusion, including the design of User Sensitive Inclusive Design Methodologies and accessibility and usability standards for people with disabilities.

Current work is concerned with the development of Instructional Games to promote skills development in young people at risk of social exclusion and in people with cognitive and sensory impairments. The design, development and evaluation of appropriate assistive technology devices for people with disabilities interacting with virtual environments is also a focus.

The group benefits from close collaboration with a strong network of UK and European partners, resulting in a strong track record of attracting significant funding from the EU. This includes the design and evaluation of serious games for offenders and ex-offenders and the design and development of serious games to enhance the employment skills of people with sensory and cognitive impairments.
