Sociology

Research in Sociology is undertaken by members of the Division of Sociology.

Dr Jeff Goatcher's current research focuses on the sociology of disaster. He is particularly interested in aspects of the visual representation of the Chernobyl disaster. He also works with the Emergency Services Research Unit at NTU with the UK Fire and Rescue Service, in the area of political training, ethical leadership, and the sociology of attacks on firefighters. Dr Goatcher is also interested in the cultural sociology of representations, where politics and the arts intersect, particularly in relation to political theatre and the player / audience relationship.

Dr Mike Keenan's current research focuses on religious identity, alternative spiritualities, sexuality, family and the clergy. He is a co-investigator on the AHRC / ESRC funded large grant research project titled, Religion, Youth and Sexuality: A Multi-faith Exploration with Dr Andrew Yip (Principal Investigator) from Nottingham University.
