Why NTU?
Nottingham Trent University is engaged in influential research across a wide range of subject areas, placing us at the leading edge in fields of enquiry which meet the needs of society, enrich quality of life and have a positive economic impact. We lead the world in a number of specialist fields, and have invested widely in providing facilities and resources to support the innovative work of our research staff and students. As a research student at NTU you will join a growing research community with opportunities to share insight and experience with other researchers.
Support and supervision
During your research you will be supported by a dedicated supervision team with specialist knowledge in your field of activity. You will also have full access to student support centres, financial advice, careers advice, disability support, counselling and an accommodation service.
Facilities
The University has invested heavily in the facilities available for research students to ensure access to state-of-the-art equipment and workspaces. We have dedicated research workspaces available providing you with an area to work and study.
Our library facilities include extensive audio-visual collections and electronic resources with over 200 databases and over 10,000 electronic journals accessible online, in addition to 480,000 books. Research students have the same borrowing rights and access to services as lecturers and are eligible for a SCONUL scheme offering borrowing access to nearly 170 higher education libraries in the UK.
Personal development
We encourage our research students to develop personally and professionally during their time at NTU. Our research students are regularly involved in the University’s extensive seminar programme and in conferences at the University.
While undertaking their research, students have access to courses and training programmes. These enable our students to enhance their skills in research methods and methodology, as well as transferable skills such as events organisation, presentation skills, media training and getting published.
Employability
Research degrees are advanced qualifications that provide a basis for professional employment in a range of occupations, including within universities. Statistics on the employment patterns of recent research degree graduates indicate that up to 50% progress to working as lecturers or researchers within the university sector, or are otherwise involved in teaching. The rest move into employment in a range of industries, including manufacturing, public administration and other business sectors.
