Contract and collaborative research
The School undertakes research projects with government and industry clients on both a contract and collaborative basis. Using our expertise and skills, we aim to resolve commercial problems and develop emerging technologies and scientific innovations that mutually benefit the client and the University.

Intellectual property
We have a successful record of nurturing spinout companies, creating joint ventures and licensing intellectual property. We provide advice and guidance on patents, copyright, trade marks, design rights and confidentiality issues.

Training and continuing professional development
We deliver a number of postgraduate, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and short courses that have been designed to meet the skills needs of your employees and that realise clear advantages for your business.
Whilst our core portfolio of training and development is available across the year we also have internal expertise to design and deliver bespoke courses. We can tailor our content to your exact requirements, whether accredited to create a new in-company programme or as part of your ongoing skills development strategy.
Placements
A large number of businesses enjoy the reciprocal benefits of hosting placement students. The scheme enables employers to utilise the skills of our undergraduate and postgraduate students. In return, they benefit from valuable work experience. The School teaches the latest scientific techniques, programming and management skills with a vocational focus, enabling students to integrate quickly into a working environment.
