Contract and collaborative research

We have an unrivalled reputation for attracting leading-edge projects from government and industry clients both in the UK and overseas. Our active researchers have many links in the UK and across the globe.

The School undertakes research on both a contract and collaborative basis with a wide range of businesses, funding bodies, government agencies, charities and higher education institutions. Using our expertise and skills, we aim to resolve commercial problems and develop emerging technologies and scientific innovations that mutually benefit the client and the University.

Contract research

Contract research is when a company employs the University to use its specialist skills and knowledge to investigate a particular problem. Work is carried out on a commercial and confidential basis.

Collaborative research

Collaborative research is when a company and the School combine their expertise in order to gain funding to undertake research of mutual benefit. The sources of funding can vary.
