Contract and collaborative research

The School undertakes research projects with government and industry clients on both a contract and collaborative basis. Using our expertise and skills, we aim to resolve commercial problems and develop emerging technologies and scientific innovations that mutually benefit the client and the University.

Intellectual property

We have a successful record of nurturing spinout companies, creating joint ventures and licensing intellectual property. We provide advice and guidance on patents, copyright, trade marks, design rights and confidentiality issues.

Training and continuing professional development

We deliver a number of professional development short courses that have been designed so that your personal aspirations and the development needs of business are successfully matched.

We have recently developed a range of modules based on information security, addressing the online and networking security challenges facing organisations in the current business climate. This training series has been created in collaboration with the police service, businesses and national bodies.

Placements

A large number of businesses enjoy the reciprocal benefits of hosting placement students. The scheme enables employers to utilise the skills of our undergraduate and postgraduate students. In return, they benefit from valuable work experience. The School teaches the latest scientific techniques, programming and management skills with a vocational focus, enabling students to integrate quickly into a working environment.
