Opportunities while you study

Studying here is much more than spending hours in the library and in lectures. In the School of Science and Technology we offer opportunities to get involved in ground breaking and fascinating clubs and societies linked closely to your future career. Currently students can get involved in the following clubs and societies:

Astronomical Society

This society brings together those with a passion for astronomy through educational and social activities.

Computing Society

In the competitive world of work, when it comes to making your CV stand out it's vital you showcase your skills and abilities in their best possible light. The Computing Society can provide you with the support, contacts and facilities to help develop your career. A dedicated home equipped with a range of computers, game software development kits and devices provides the perfect environment for like minded people to share ideas and build on their enthusiasm for new technology. Chosen by Society members, activities are exciting and varied. At the beginning of each year, the elected Society representatives submit proposals to the School to attract support for their activities.

SPUR funding for summer research projects

Students can get involved in cutting edge research at NTU by offering support on current research projects during their summer break.

Nuffield Science Bursaries for summer research projects

This scheme give students to join a real research project with practicing scientists. Projects run for four to six weeks during the summer break.

Placements

We offer undergraduate and postgraduate placement opportunities in a wide range of industries. Undertaking a placement while you study will increase your employability.

Science and mathematics outreach events

Through our Centre for Effective Learning in Science (CELS) we offer students the opportunity to get involved with our outreach activity in the local community. Recent opportunities have included working at our Open Dome events where our observatory is opened up to the general public.

Student Ambassadors on open days

We run many open days and events within the School. We are always looking for current students to come along and work with us on an open day to give prospective students a real feel for studying at NTU.

Forensic Society

The Forensic Science Society organise a series of forensic related activities, for example Forensic Anthropology workshops and guest speakers, and run a programme of social events including Murder Mystery theme evenings.

Volunteer work

We have opportunities for volunteer work in the local countryside. Students can get involved in conservation work including:

• Path, ride and access work for nature trail
• Step repair and installation
• Coppicing (with hand tools, as back up to chain saw operators)
• Hedge laying
• Assistance with open days, log sales and guided walks

Students in Classrooms opportunities

Students can get involved in NTU's Students in Classroom scheme. Students from the School of Science and Technology often get involved in 'communicating science' to primary and secondary school children.
