Crime Scene House Forensic Training Facility

Crime Scene House Training Facility

Based on Clifton campus, this former postgraduate accommodation is now used for students, researchers and professionals as a forensic analysis and training site. Assuming the role of crime scene examiners, students are helped by the facility to develop their investigation, collection and analysis techniques. The rooms of the house replicate crime scenes, from burglaries and assaults to detailed drugs searches.

The onsite facilities provide a range of equipment including a document examination laboratory, ballistics lab, digital fingerprint capture and specialist lighting techniques. The Forensic Science analysis suite features evidence instrumentation including DNA sequencing tools, electron microscopy, ballistics macroscopy and chromatography.

The facility has been so successful that both Nottinghamshire Police and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have used it to develop their own crime scene security and collection and preservation of evidence training programmes. More recently it has been used to train lawyers from Malaysia in aspects of crime scene investigation for joint law school projects.
