Nottingham – a central hub for business and the professions

Nottingham has something to offer everyone with fascinating heritage, diverse culture, expanding retail quarters and a burgeoning arts scene.

Its location in the centre of England, and excellent transport links to all major UK cities and Europe, ensures Nottingham will continue to be a regional focus for business, attracting a flexible and skilled workforce.

With a growing concentration of public sector organisations in the area, Nottingham has established itself as the regional administrative centre of the East Midlands. The city also supports a combination of large international companies complemented by a buoyant, ambitious small and medium sized business sector.

Nottingham has a reputation as a city characterised by knowledge and innovation. High growth sectors such as science and technology enable Nottingham to thrive and be nationally and internationally competitive.

In 2012 the Nottingham Economic Growth Plan was launched. This sets out a series of measures for driving the economy forward and will form the basis of Nottingham's approach to economic growth for the next few years.

The flagship project of the Growth Plan is the Nottingham Creative Quarter. This aims to encourage more businesses into the area by investing in infrastructure, providing access to grants and other business support such as skilled employees through apprenticeships and training packages.

Getting around

A comprehensive network of motorway rail links means that Nottingham is accessible from most of the country in around two hours. There is also a 24 hour Skylink bus service from East Midlands Airport - situated just 15 miles from the city centre.

Getting around Nottingham is also easy. The city centre boasts an award-winning, £200m tram system which runs from Nottingham railway station through the city centre and the NTU city site to Hucknall. There are also two major bus stations at the Broadmarsh and Victoria shopping centres, which cover the entire county. It's unsurprising that the Government has rated Nottingham transport system "excellent", and it's keeping the city green.
