Academic divisions
Our academic provision is organised within five academic divisions, each offering a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses.

Our criminology course delivers excellence in both teaching and research. Opportunities are provided for students on a range of undergraduate courses to take modules in the field of policy studies including social policy.
The public health team deliver courses that are accredited by the relevant professional bodies and relate to the environment, public health and safety.

The career education and guidance teaching team work with collaborative partners to deliver guidance courses to teachers and those working within the field of career education. Teaching in youth justice and youth studies is delivered by academic staff with a wealth of experience of working with young people in a variety of capacities.

Politics has received excellent ratings and has an active and vibrant research culture, ensuring high quality research-informed modules and programmes. Sociology covers a range of teaching and research expertise in both established and emerging areas within the discipline, with a particular focus on inclusion, culture and diversity.

Psychology has been recognised for its teaching excellence, while also having a strong national and growing international research profile. Our undergraduate courses, psychology conversion programmes and our MSc Forensic Psychology are all accredited by the British Psychological Society.

Studies in health and social care provide vocationally relevant academic qualifications that are an ideal springboard to a career in health, social care, education, guidance, counselling, probation or social justice. All social work provision is approved by the General Social Care Council (GSCC) and the social work team works collaboratively with the GSCC and a range of employers to ensure that our courses remain relevant to professional practice.
