Our research is at the cutting edge of social science enabling us to hold a national and international presence. There is a long-standing commitment to applied research that benefits society, particularly the local community. Our taught postgraduate courses, some of which have been recognised by the prestigious Economic and Social Research Council, offer an excellent foundation for progression onto doctoral studies. If you wish to talk with someone about your particular circumstance and how this will align with your chosen area of study please contact us.
An outstanding reputation for teaching and research
Our students study in a vibrant learning environment with high quality teaching and outstanding student support. Innovative courses and research degrees build on the research and professional strengths of our staff. Official assessments - in psychology, politics and in health - have shown the school's teaching quality as being 'excellent'.

The School also has an exceptional reputation for its external collaborations. Strong working relationships with a wide range of professionals, charities, research councils and policy makers ensure that we have up-to-date, vocationally relevant courses.
Directly relevant to a large number of organisations, the Schools expertise has and can also shape policies, training and strategic direction. We run a wide range of highly successful initiatives, including contract-research, in-house training, consultancy and conferences.
