Doctoral degrees:

Opportunities are available for postgraduate study leading to a PhD, by both full-time and part-time routes, across a wide range of disciplines. We have a strong PhD community in Psychology and growing community in other areas of social science. We also positively encourage interdisciplinary research. If you are interested in a research degree in any of the Social Science subjects please visit the School’s research page to see what areas of expertise we are able to offer. Most programmes of study can be taken by distance learning.

A professional Doctorate in Social Professions is available to those who wish to undertake a research degree related to their area of professional expertise.

Research students are supervised by nationally and internationally recognised researchers in the School of Social Sciences, who would be happy to discuss research opportunities with you. Quality assurance of the student experience is the responsibility of the College Graduate School. The School of Social Sciences works closely with the Graduate School which means our research students belong to a larger community of more than 100 home and international research students.
