Career development opportunities
We have established links and working relationships with industry and professionals in relevant fields to ensure up-to-date and vocationally relevant course content. We also build upon our research and professional strengths to enrich the School’s curriculum.
Our courses draw on up-to-date research from our key researchers in subjects such as politics, crime reduction, hate crime, criminological psychology and ageing. This means that you will have access to the results of cutting-edge research and your course materials will reflect current thinking.
Students will often learn from professionals in their field such as drugs workers, prison staff, psychologists, police investigators, careers guidance, health and safety and environmental practitioners, who are invited to participate in lectures and seminars.
We are developing our Erasmus links and Politics, Sociology and Politics and Sociology students will have the opportunity to spend the second term of their second year studying at various European universities. Find out more on our study abroad page.
Social work students enjoy practice placements in all three years of their course, and those on other courses may be encouraged to undertake voluntary work in an area linked to their studies.
