This lecture will argue that the current hostility to multiculturalism in certain influential circles is misplaced and based on a deep misunderstanding of its history and creative contribution.

Lord Parekh is Emeritus Professor of Political Philosophy at the Universities of Hull and Westminster and was appointed as a Labour Member of the House of Lords in 2000.

He has been a visiting professor at many universities including McGill, Harvard, Barcelona, Paris and Pennsylvania. He is author of several widely acclaimed books in political philosophy.

Lord Parekh has been awarded well over a dozen honorary doctorates from various British universities, including an honorary degree of Doctor of Social Sciences from NTU in July 2011.
