Nick graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Mathematics and Science in 1999 and joined NEC Harlequins in August 2004, having previously played for Orrell and Rotherham. He was named NEC Player of the Year for the 2004-2005 season, an award he won once more at the end of the 2005-2006 campaign, having scored 19 tries during the season.

Following a string of impressive performances, Nick was thrilled to be chosen to play for England in the RBS Six Nations Championships. His full international debut came after a successful few years playing for NEC Harlequins and helping them regain their Guinness Premiership place.

Nick found out he had been selected for the England first team when they played Italy in the 2008 Six Nations. He said:

“I was gob-smacked, when I was told. [England coach] Brian Ashton’s first words to me when I arrived in the hotel reception in Bath were ‘congratulations, you are in the starting XV’.”

Nick also became the first number eight to score four tries in a game when England beat Wales 62-5 at Twickenham in August 2007.
