Matthew Myers

The challenges of studying for a BSc (Hons) Real Estate Management degree at Nottingham Trent University didn't stop Matthew Myers getting his skates on and carving out an international ice hockey career.

He played for Nottingham Panthers and represented Great Britain while studying, and also scooped the Vice-Chancellor’s Trust Fund Award.

Matthew was nominated by his tutors because he showed that he could succeed in both his studies and on work placement – while playing his sport at the highest level. He was also praised for his role as an ambassador for the University after he was singled out by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors as an inspirational case study. His nomination stated:

“He sets an excellent example to his fellow students as well as thousands of ice hockey spectators, many of whom will have aspirations to go to university.”

Matthew said:

“The final year has meant working pretty much seven days a week, but the University has been really flexible and allowed me to hop from class to class to make sure that I didn't miss any lectures or seminars as well as my hockey training… the whole three years have been a fantastic experience. I would do it all over again if I could.”
