Workshop programme
Workshop sessions
Each year there are a series of workshops covering topics surrounding student-athlete life.
There is a slight change to the structure of workshops and seminars for the coming year, with the programme being built around 4 main seminars. Scholars will be expected to attend at least 2 of these seminars which will be spread out over the course of terms 1 and 2 to suit timetables wherever possible.
Setting your game plan
On leaving this workshop you will have a clear outline of your game plan in sport, University and life. Having a clear picture of where you're heading and what you hope to achieve will allow you to make the most of every opportunity throughout the year and tailor the sport scholarship support to achieving all your goals.
Communication skills
This workshop is designed to give athletes the basic skills to communicate themselves to the media, potential employers, sponsors, managers and coaches. Each and every day you present yourself to others who form an opinion based on not only what you say but also the way you say it. Non-verbal methods of communication gives away an awful lot; you will develop your skills in presenting yourself and communicating effective and appropriate messages to others.
CV writing
This workshop will look at the purpose of a CV for athletes. This will include:
- writing your CV with the required format, structure, layout and content ordering
- how to identify current business trends and tailor your CV accordingly
- the do’s and don'ts of CV writing, and importantly how to identify your transferable skills.
Bring along CV’s if you have one; there will be opportunities to practice, proof read and have feedback. You will also be provided with valuable resources to move forward and useful links!
Interviewing skills
This workshop is particularly important if you are about to leave University and enter the world of work! This session will cover:
- top tips of interviewing skills including personal presentation, all important first impressions and the dreaded handshake.
- pre-interview research questions
- how to take your sporting confidence into an interview
- identifying what the employer is really looking for – what can you offer them?
