The charities

The Varsity series has been contested for several years and is always played in good spirit with a friendly rivalry both on and off the pitch. It is only in recent years that the series has had the added incentive of being a charity-focused event.
In 2008 over £9,000 was raised for Nottinghamshire Royal Society for the Blind with proceeds going to sport provision within the charity, such as coaching.
The totals raised for the chosen charity has risen every year, and in 2010, Cardiac Risk in the Young received more than £14,500. This was topped by the 2011 total of over £16,000 for the Parents Association for Seriously Ill Children.
