FAQs - Volunteering in Sport
How do I sign up for a volunteering project?
- The easiest way is to select a project from our Volunteer Projects page and contact us using the email or just submit your details. If you can't see anything that takes your fancy but would really like to get involved in volunteering or have an idea for a project not already listed – please email us and we'll do our very best to help!
What benefit does volunteering have?
- Volunteering is a great way of not only helping your university and the local community, but also helping yourself. In the current job market standing out from the crowd is essential and volunteering could do this for you! Get in touch with us to see where volunteering could take you. Also check out our information on 'Why Volunteer' for details about how it can improve your CV and personal skills.
- All volunteers will also receive a free T-shirt and don't worry about cost – you will be able to claim back any reasonable expenses you incur as a result of volunteering so it won't cost you anything!
How much time will I need to commit?
- Our projects all vary in terms of the amount of hours required. Have a think about how much time you will be able to commit (bearing in mind the busier times during term) and then use our guide to the projects to decide which would be best for you. Lots of the projects are flexible so if you need any advice or can't find one to suit you - send us an email and we can discuss the options.
Can I get involved in more than one project?
- Of course! As long as you have got the time (and energy!) there's plenty to get involved so have a browse through our projects.
Our Sports Club would like to volunteer – what is the next step?
- It's great you would like to volunteer – we have lots of projects from one day events to regular activities such as coaching in schools so we will make sure we arrange a great opportunity which suits your club. The first step is to get in touch by email and we can chat about where to go next!
Are there any opportunities for staff as well as students?
- Yes! Most of our projects are open to staff as well as students (unless otherwise stated). We can link projects to the NTU Employee Volunteering and Community Involvement Scheme which supports staff volunteering and encourages volunteering activities as a legitimate form of staff development. Just select the 'staff' option when submitting your details or ask us any questions by email.
