Frequently asked questions

When can I apply for accommodation?
The accommodation booking system for new students joining us in September 2012 is currently open. You will need to complete the booking process online.

What is my NTU ID number and how do I get it?
This is your student ID number which you will keep throughout your time at NTU. It will be eight characters and start with N, for example N1234567. Once you have accepted your offer we will send you an email including you NTU ID. Check your inbox and spam filter for the email. Due to technical difficulties, you may not have received this until very recently, so please recheck your inbox. If you definitely have not received the email please email us with your full name, date of birth and UCAS number.

You are my insurance choice. How do I book my accommodation?
Due to the high number of applications we receive only applicants who have accepted us as their first choice of university (your 'firm acceptance' choice) can apply for accommodation. If we are your insurance choice and your offer is confirmed after your results are declared we will contact you to arrange suitable accommodation.

I am having problems logging in
Please check that you are entering your NTU ID and password correctly. If you have forgotten your password you can reset it here. If you are still having problems please contact us.

Can I view the accommodation before I book?
If you attend an open day you will be able to view some of the accommodation available. Unfortunately we cannot arrange individual viewings outside of open days. Please take a look at our video to get an idea of the accommodation available.

Will I have to vacate my room during the Easter and Christmas holidays?
No, University contracts are for either 44, 48 or 51 weeks and cover the whole academic year.

Will I get my first choice of accommodation?
Our accommodation is extremely popular and availability becomes limited very quickly. We recommend that you apply as early as possible to increase the chance of securing the residence that you would like. It is advisable to view the details of several residences so that you can book alternative residences if your first choice is fully booked.

What if I have a disability or need an accessible room?
If you have a disability, or need special consideration because of a medical condition or exceptional circumstances, we can help. We offer a number of accessible rooms with features to assist a range of requirements.

If you are a disabled student who requires personal full-time assistance, we can also offer residential accommodation for your helper. We may ask you for supporting information from your doctor before allocating you an accessible room. If you have any questions about the support available, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Can I smoke in my room?
Smoking in public places has been illegal since 1 July 2007 and is strictly forbidden in all University residences.

Can I bring my car?
Limited parking is available at some University residences (by purchased permit). Parking at city centre and some Clifton residences is not available. Nottingham has an excellent bus and tram system with students able to take advantage of discounted fares.

Once I have booked accommodation how do I change the bank account that the accommodation fees will be taken from?
If you need to change the bank account that you have nominated your accommodation fees to be taken from, please contact Credit Control by telephone on +44 (0)115 848 6500.

What will I need to bring?
Our accommodation is well equipped, but you'll need to bring your own cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, bedding and towels. If you bring a TV for your room, you'll need to buy a TV licence. For more information, please see the page on what's included. Please note that certain items are prohibited from residences. A full list of these items can be found in the relevant residence handbook.

When can I move in?
You will need to check your individual residence agreement for your contract start date, as there are differing lengths of contracts depending on residence.

Where do I collect my keys from?
You will receive an email nearer to your arrival date advising where and when keys can be collected.

How much is the Internet connection?
A free Wi-Fi internet connection is available at all of our residences. There is no additional charge for this.

How do I cancel my accommodation booking?
Please view the Cancellation Policy.
