Preparing to study
The fundamental difference between your prior studies and the first year of your degree is the amount of independent learning you are expected to do. This section covers ways in which you can prepare for your university studies as an undergraduate, postgraduate and international student.
We would also recommend that all students do the following to prepare for their studies:
- As soon as you get the chance, make sure that you log on to your University email account.
- Once you have accepted your place at NTU, you will be able to log on to NOW (NTU Online Workspace). We suggest you take a look around this virtual learning environment, as it contains useful information about your course (timetables, reading lists etc).
- Get to know a bit about the university and find out the latest news and events by visiting our Student intranet.
- Once you've fully enrolled check out your Student Portal. It will appear automatically when you log in on campus, but just add ADS\ to the front of your NTU student number when you log in off campus.
- Explore the University Libraries and Learning Resources.
- Buy a book on studying at university. If you can, spend a bit of time in a good bookshop browsing the range of books and pick the one that you like most.
- Access your course reading list in NOW and buy a couple of the recommended textbooks. Start reading for your course.
- Have a look at our Student Charter
and see how NTU is committed to delivering a high quality student experience and enabling you to realise your ambitions.
