Bringing your family
It is important to spend some time in the UK before your studies and to read the following information to ensure that your family's needs are met:
- See the money section of the Welcome Guide
to ensure that you have enough funds to live, study and support your family. - Access the international student funding information.
- See the private sector and international student pages on choosing suitable UK accommodation.
- Access the UKBA website to find out more about the immigration regulations you need to follow to bring your family to the UK.
Schools
Your children will be able to attend a state school if they are aged between 5 and 16. State education is free in the UK. For more information, please see:
- the Admissions and Exclusions Service for schools in the City of Nottingham
- Nottinghamshire County Council Education Department for schools in Nottingham's surrounding areas including Beeston and West Bridgford.
Nursery care
There are a number of private nursery schools, pre-school playgroups and state nursery schools close to the University. Private nurseries can usually take children from the age of six weeks and upwards. State nursery schools and pre-school playgroups usually take children from the age of three years and upwards on a part-time basis. All three and four-year-old children are entitled to a free part-time education place. (Children who are aged three are entitled to a free, part-time place starting from the school term following their third birthday.)
Further information:
- Places may be available in day nurseries, school nurseries, independent schools or pre-school playgroups which have been registered by the Department for Education (DfE)
- Childminders who look after one or more children (under the age of eight), for more than two hours a day, must be registered with the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted).
