Academic support

Learning at university can be intellectually challenging and sometimes pretty tough going. You may find you sometimes need a little extra help as you manage multiple deadlines and work on complex subjects.

Where do you go for help?

The academic support structures vary slightly depending upon which course you are on. As a general rule, we advise that you speak to the tutor who is teaching the module you are having difficulty with. Details of how to contact them will be in your course information on NOW, you may also be given a hard copy of the course hand book and the school office will also have information about how to get in touch with them.

For more serious academic problems, for example, perhaps you don't understand the work on a number of modules; you should speak to your personal tutor or year tutor.

Further academic support is available for students to help improve your work. In some schools this support is provided by a team of trained student mentors, in others by University staff. Support available includes academic workshops, informal drop-in Study Skills Cafés and one-to-one support.

Students with dyslexia can receive additional support from our Dyslexia Support Team and international students can have additional language support from the In-sessional language support team.
