Part-time undergraduate students who started their course at NTU after 1 September 2012

From September 2012, new part-time students from England can apply for a tuition fee loan. To be eligible for a tuition fee loan, applicants must be studying at least 25% of the equivalent full-time course. It must also be the first time you have studied in higher education.

Please visit Directgov for further information about tuition fee loans for part-time students, including details of how to apply as well as repaying your loan and interest rates.

From 2012 / 13, new part-time students cannot apply for funding towards their living costs or other course costs.

Part-time undergraduate students who started their course at NTU before 1 September 2012

For those who started their course at NTU before 1 September 2012, there are two main sources of non-repayable funding available to you:

  • The Fee Grant - to help with your tuition fees. This funding will be paid directly to the University or College.
  • The Course Grant - to help you with your course related expenses such as books and travel. This funding will be paid directly to you.

Your funding amount will be dependent upon the course you are studying, your household income and your personal circumstances. The Fee Grant and Course Grant are non-repayable.

You can find out if you are eligible on the Directgov website.

The level of the grant you receive will depend on your intensity of study (i.e. how long it will take you to complete your course compared to if you were doing the course on a full-time basis), your household income and personal circumstances.

The maximum course grant available in 2012 / 13 is £265. Your course grant is means-tested and your eligibility will depend on your household income and personal circumstances.

Please visit the Directgov website to find out how to apply for fee and course grants.

Other funding

The Additional Fee Support Scheme

For those who started their course at NTU before 1 September 2012, additional fee support is available for low-income part-time students whose statutory fee support is insufficient to meet the full tuition fee. You must be studying at least 50% of a full-time course or 25% for disabled students to qualify.
You must also have been assessed for a Fee Grant from your National Student Finance Service before an application can be submitted.

Further information is available on our Other Hardship Funds webpage.

You can also call the Access to Learning Fund administrator on +44 (0)115 8486135 or email the Student Financial Support Service for further information.

Disabled Students' Allowance
If you incur additional study-related costs due to a disability, you can apply to your national Student Finance service for an additional non-repayable grant to support these costs. Your household income will not be taken into consideration when calculating your grant amount. Email our Disability Support Service for more information.

Access to Learning Fund
If you are studying for at least 50% of a full-time course (25% if you are disabled or started your course after 1 September 2012), you can apply to the Access to Learning Fund for financial assistance. The fund is administered by the University's Student Financial Support Service. Funds are limited and targeted at those with low incomes. Students in receipt of the full fee grant and course grant from their national Student Finance service will be eligible for a grant to support registered and approved childcare and course related travel costs from the Access to Learning fund. You do not have to repay money from this fund.
