National Scholarship

Please note - these arrangements apply only to students who joined NTU after 1 September 2012.

National Scholarship Scheme

In 2012, as part of the Government’s National Scholarship Scheme, NTU will be awarding 568 National Scholarships of £3,000 to eligible students in the form of a fee reduction. These Scholarships will be awarded for each academic year of study up to maximum of three years of study (total £9,000).

Nottingham Trent University will award these 568 National Scholarships to students with the lowest household income as assessed by Student Finance England.

In order to be considered for a National Scholarship, students will be required to meet the following criteria:

• be liable to pay the new full home undergraduate tuition fee of £8,500 (£6,500 for foundation degree programmes)
• be ordinarily resident in England
• have applied for and received final confirmation by 31 August 2012 that you have qualified for the maximum
• maintenance grant for living costs under the current Student Support Regulations.

Under eligibility criteria set by the Government, the following students cannot be considered for National Scholarship awards:

• students funded by the Training and Development Agency for Schools
• students directly continuing from one course to another (for example from foundation degree or HND on to the second or final year of an honours degree)
• students transferring in to Nottingham Trent University from another institution
• students who are ordinarily resident in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
• students whose fees are paid or part paid through a sponsorship arrangement.

Meeting the above criteria will not automatically guarantee that you will receive a National Scholarship. We will identify 568 students with the lowest household incomes to receive these awards based on information provided by Student Finance England.

There is no separate application process to apply for a National Scholarship award from Nottingham Trent University. Your eligibility will be automatically assessed as long as NTU has received final confirmation of your maximum grant from Student Finance England by 31 August 2012. Once your eligibility for the maintenance grant has been established, NTU should automatically receive confirmation of this if you have advised Student Finance England that you will be studying at Nottingham Trent University and provided you (and your sponsors if applicable) have not actively withdrawn consent to share financial information with the University for the purposes of assessing scholarship entitlement. If you are awarded a Scholarship, you will receive written confirmation from the University.

If you are awarded a National Scholarship for 2012, you will not be eligible to receive an NTU Scholarship.
