Online counselling

What is Online Counselling?

Online Counselling is ideal if you prefer communicating via email rather than face-to-face about personal issues. You may also find it helpful when away from campus or if you have limited daytime availability.

What does the service offer?

We will initially offer you up to six weekly exchanges of emails. You will be asked to send in your email at least 24 hours before your appointment time to give your Online Counsellor sufficient time to consider your email and compose a reply.

What sort of issues can I contact you about?

We can help you with diverse issues, including:

  • anxiety
  • stress
  • depression
  • loneliness
  • relationship problems
  • bereavement
  • self-esteem
  • sexual orientation
  • discrimination.

Not all issues can be dealt with through Online Counselling. Your counsellor will advise you about the most appropriate support to suit your needs. More information is available in our Online Counselling booklet PDF icon .

Who are the Online Counsellors?

All of our Online Counsellors are part of the counselling service. They are fully qualified and experienced in face to face counselling and have had additional training and experience in providing counselling by email.

How do I apply for Online Counselling?

You will need to complete the online application form, which will enable us to assess whether Online Counselling is suitable for you. Once you have indicated your acceptance of the contract by completing the online form, an Online Counsellor will contact you to let you know whether this service is suitable for you. When there is a slot available, you will be offered a weekly appointment time.
