Arrange an appointment
How to arrange an appointment
You need to complete one of the forms below before we can offer you an appointment. However, before you decide to request counselling, we suggest that you look at the useful information webpage which gives helpful advice, including on how to deal with exam stress. Once you have looked at this information, if you would still like counselling, please complete ONE of the forms below. If you are not sure which type of counselling you would prefer after reading the Counselling and Online Counselling pages, please phone the counselling administrator on 0115 848 6487 for further information.
Please complete one of the online forms below by clicking on either:
Alternatively, for face to face counselling, you can contact us for a printed copy of the form or obtain one from the Student Support Centre on your campus.
After you have submitted the form for Online Counselling, you will be emailed to either confirm that your name has been added to the waiting list for Online Counselling or request additional information. For face to face counselling, you will be contacted by the Counselling Administrator to arrange an initial assessment session of up to 60 minutes. There is often a wait of a few weeks for an appointment but we do get cancellations so please give as much availability on the form as you can. At your initial appointment, you may then be offered a follow up session or placed on the waiting list for weekly counselling sessions (usually up to four sessions).
In order to access ongoing counselling, we will need to have details of your local doctor.
Please note that:
- You will need to arrive on time or we may not be able to see you.
- We will be unable to see you if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Sometimes we will refer you to alternative services for more appropriate support.
Unable to attend your appointment?
If you need to cancel an appointment we ask that you give us at least 48 hours notice (except in unavoidable circumstances such as sudden illness). The appointment can then be used by someone else. Last year over 400 counselling appointments were lost because of last minute cancellations or missed sessions.
If you miss an appointment, it is important to contact the Counselling Administrator within 48 hours. If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you no longer want appointments. You can, however, request counselling again in the future.
