Emotional health

Look after your emotional health and wellbeing

Emotional health and wellbeing involves feeling happy, getting involved in university life and taking time for yourself. It is important that you feel secure and positive while learning. The Students' Union offers clubs, societies and volunteering opportunities for you to get involved in. You can also seek support from the following sources:

Our Chaplains are also trained to support people with loss and bereavement issues. They can talk to you confidentially, compassionately and objectively about the issues you might be facing. You do not have to be of faith to book a chat.

You can also find out what spiritual health involves and answer the questionnaire to see how spiritual you are

Stay safe

Being at university provides a new environment, lifestyle and social circle, which will give you a lot of freedom. If you are somewhere new, not feeling entirely comfortable or just feeling a little vulnerable, then keep calm and protect yourself:

  • Walk confidently.
  • Blend in with the crowd.
  • Keep your bag closed and your money or phone out of sight.
  • Visit cash machines in daylight or get cash back in shops.
  • Have your keys handy before you reach your door.
  • Always make sure you have enough money to get a taxi home.
  • Never get in an unlicensed taxi. Use a hackney carriage, black cab or book a minicab at a cab office or by phone (make sure you have a number).

Protect your possessions and feel safe at home

  • Remember to lock your door and windows.
  • Don't leave valuables on display.
  • Register your stuff on the police database.
  • Smartwater your property.
  • Get contents insurance.

Visit Nottingham's student crime prevention website. If you are a victim of crime, report it to the police and University security as soon as possible:

  • Telephone +44 (0)115 848 6462 / 2468 for the City site.
  • Telephone +44 (0)115 848 6600 for Clifton campus.
  • Telephone +44 (0)778 611 2005 or for Brackenhurst campus.
