Tier 4 responsibilities
If you hold a Tier 4 visa which you obtained using a CAS assigned by NTU, both you (the student) and the University are subject to certain Tier 4 immigration responsibilities.
The student's Tier 4 responsibilities
- You must hold a valid Tier 4 visa, which you obtained using a CAS issued to you by NTU.
- You must provide the University with up-to-date personal contact details, including your term-time address, your home address, and your UK telephone number. You can update these details at any time by logging into myNTU.
- You must provide the University with a copy of your passport and immigration document (visa or Biometric Residence Permit, if applicable). Every time you get a new passport or visa, you must provide copies to the University.
You will not be fully enrolled until you have provided a copy of your passport and immigration document to the University. During the main enrolment period (September – October) there are specific sessions where you can provide your documentation. Outside of this period, you need to take your documents to the Student Services Centre in the Newton building.
The University's Tier 4 responsibilities
The University is legally obliged to fulfil a number of duties as your immigration sponsor. These include the requirement to keep:
- records of your personal contact details
- copies of your passport and identity card or immigration document (visa).
The University is also required to report information to the Home Office for students on a Tier 4 visa. We need to let the Home Office know about students who:
- defer the start date (commencement) of their course
- do not start their course
- do not enrol on the course
- miss 10 expected contacts without approved permission from NTU
- suspend or take a break from studies for any reason
- change to a shorter course, change to a course that does not meet Tier 4 requirements (for example a part-time course), or who finish their studies early
- leave NTU without completing their course
- breach the conditions of their leave by failing to re-enrol in subsequent academic years, by failing to pay their tuition fees, or by failing to provide passport and immigration documents when requested.
The Home Office can bring your immigration permission to an end early if it is notified of one of these matters. Therefore, it is important that you contact your School immediately if you are experiencing any difficulties which may affect your ability to attend your course. You may also wish to take advice from the International Student Support Service about this as it could affect your immigration status.
