School of Art & Design

We would like more social space in the Waverley building.

We have refurbished the main entrance space of the building and introduced a café facility for use by all students and staff.

Can we talk to existing students from our course areas during the first year of study? It would be good to share views and get advice and guidance.

We have introduced a school-wide ‘buddy’ system, whereby second and third years volunteer their contact details for incoming first year students. They are then available to help give advice and guidance, or just to help first years feel more at home when they start study at the School.

It would be interesting to see more of the work that goes on across other courses during the year.

We have developed a flexible online portfolio website for all Art & Design students to:
- upload their work and ideas
- view other student work
- use to showcase their creativity.
This exciting new facility is available from January 2013.

Are we able to show our final year degree show work across the City site?

We have negotiated the usage and allocation of space for students to present their final year degree shows in all the City site flagship buildings. Visitor numbers and feedback have excelled all expectations and this approach to the degree shows will now be continued every year.

We would like to know more about what is going on across the School.

We have introduced news boards and posters across the Art & Design buildings, which are updated at regular intervals throughout the year to reflect activities and student success.
Other improvements
- We have introduced a student forum session every term for students to meet with the Dean of the School and senior members of staff, and voice their opinions and suggestions for ongoing improvements.
If you have any comments or suggestions for improvements we could make, email the student comms team.
