Update Me: Ordnance Survey teaching resources
Royal Geographical Society with IBG
Lack of attention to pedagogy, skills and current changes in geographical education can have a huge impact on the quality of geography teaching. Through 'Update Me' sessions, we will provide insight into the latest geographical thinking, link directly to governmental initiatives and changes and focus on raising the skills and knowledge base of geography teachers at every stage in their career.

About the sessionThis course is aimed at teachers at all Key Stages who are interested in developing spatial awareness skills primarily linked to the Geography curriculum. Ordnance Survey now provides a range of digital map data at no cost for use in schools. We will show you what is available for instant use and which data is suitable for using with your own GIS software. Digimap for Schools is a whole school web resource which provides a range of Ordnance Survey digital map data to view, print and saves as print files. At each zoom level annotations in the form of text, polygons and lines can be added and saved. Also grid references can be displayed, distances measured and areas calculated. Through the use of OS OpenSpace and the associated web-map-builder tool we will show you how easy it is to customise and place an Ordnance Survey map on your website for free. We will give you an opportunity to use the service at this event. How often have you used the Ordnance Survey website or MapZone®, the dedicated website for 7 – 16 year olds? On each site there is a range of resources you can use for free. We will show you what is available.
