Event details

NTU's IS department invites you or a team of up to five students to 'AppJam'.

AppJam is a 24-hour event for all students who have an idea for a mobile app. The app must enhance the experience of students here at NTU. You can choose to participate in one of two competitions:

Programming competition

Teams are required to build a mobile app aimed at improving the student experience at NTU. You'll be able to use resources provided such as APIs and IS support. You can use any software of your choice and any programming language.

Ideas competition

This competition requires the teams to come up with an idea and design a mobile app. You will have to describe your app’s functionality and design user interface. You can do it in any way and use a software of your choice. It could be a PowerPoint presentation, sketches on Photoshop or any other method. Be creative!

The rules

You must bring your own device to the event. Power sockets, network cables and Wi-Fi connection will be provided. If you do not own a machine, you will be able to borrow a laptop from the library. Please be aware that the library have a limited number of laptops available.

Participants do not have to stay in the library for 24 hours, however all ideas and apps must be developed in the venue. No pre-made designs or code can be used, although the use of external libraries is permitted.

Prizes

Expert judges from Desire2Learn and NTU's IT department will decide the winners. The team that develops the best mobile app will receive a certificate and a cash prize of £250 and the winners of the ideas competition will receive a £150 cash prize. Additional prizes for accessibility and innovation will also be given out.
