Event details

Nottingham Trent University and LATi are collaborating to run this workshop, aimed primarily at small companies in the science and technology sectors. It will benefit organisations who want to know more about investment opportunities available, and how to prepare well for an investment pitch.

This workshop provides powerful learning for businesses on raising finance, delivered through two highly interactive sessions.

Understand how investors thinkLearn all about fundraising. This session will help you understand finance options and how funders think. It will help you ensure that you are prepared before you meet them – you may only get one chance!

Play the investment gameThe second session is an enjoyable business game. Wear the investors' shoes and put your earlier learning into practice. Listen to real propositions, discuss the risks and rewards with delegates and (hypothetically!) decide where to invest.

Even if you are not looking to raise money right now, you'll remember the key lessons to take away and use them to analyse and strengthen your own business and your proposition.

Learn from the expertsThe workshop will be delivered by John Griffiths and Richard Comer who have many years of experience of helping small and medium organisations prepare for and raise finance.

John Griffiths previously ran Connect Midlands. John is an entrepreneurial director and business developer, as well as a Business Angel investor. He has helped many people prepare for, and raise, finance up to £5m.

Richard Comer was an aerodynamicist with Hawker Siddeley before switching career to finance, then IT. Joining Connect Midlands / University of Warwick in 2002, Richard used his experience to assist early stage businesses to understand the financing options available and to help them to raise equity finance.

This event is supported by NTU's Working With You programme and is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
