This free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event will examine the Gothic genre with specific reference to a number of key texts including The Castle of Otranto, Northanger AbbeyFrankenstein and Jekyll and Hyde. The session aims to inspire current A-level teachers with innovative approaches to teaching the Gothic – with practical examples of useful resources and how best to engage with technology in the classroom. Exploring the Gothic as a threshold concept, the session will discuss relevant literary criticism from critical debates about class and national character, to questions of gender identity.

Dr Ben Brabon is Principal Investigator on the HEA-funded eGothicist project that examines the relationship between Gothic and eLearning. He also convened the UK's first credit-bearing MOOC on Vampire Fictions.
