Future Factory, and The Food and Drink Forum, will host this talk delivered by packaging specialist David Wiggins, MD at DRW Packaging Consultants.

The lecture will cover areas such as:

  • product safety
  • labelling – trading standards and marking
  • environmental management – packaging recovery and reuse / recycling
  • product contact – packaging in contact with product (and processing machinery in contact with product)
  • health and safety.

Following the lecture will be the opportunity to network. Andrew Collinson from The Food and Drink Forum will also be available to talk to delegates about the support available for sustainable development in the food and drink industry.

There will also be one-to-one surgeries where companies can gain advice from David on packaging and sources of legal independent advice, as well as and areas such as structural design incorporating 3D printing, CAD modelling from resident Future Factory Designer Dana Church.

David has worked for companies such as Boots, Avon Cosmetics and Estee Lauder, Terry's, Nestle and Bass Brewers. David is an Industrial Fellow at the Engineering Design Centre at Cambridge University. He was national chairman of the Institute of Packaging in 2005 and continues to sit on the board of The Packaging Society.

During the networking session you can also view the University's Materials Compendium. This is a collection of innovative materials for the arts, crafts and construction industries created in collaboration with The Materials Council. There will also be a display of packaging designs from the University's recent graduates.

Programme

Registration is at 3 pm and the lecture will begin at 3.30 pm.

The one-to-one surgeries begin at 4.45 pm – you will have a 20-minute slot.
