This guest lecture is from Sylvia Lancaster, Chief Executive of the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.  

The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was set up in response to the murder of Sylvia's daughter, Sophie, in August 2007. Sophie was targeted solely because of her alternative appearance.

The work that Sylvia and the Foundation undertake focuses on challenging the intolerance and prejudice faced by alternative subcultures. Sylvia also campaigns to change hate crime legislation so that it incorporates attacks upon alternatives.

Sylvia will be speak from a personal perspective, about Sophie’s murder, the trial and the work of the Foundation that was established in Sophie’s name.
