ACE Week - Learning from disasters

Student outside Arkwright

This event is part of the School of Social Sciences' ACE week and open to School of Social Sciences undergraduate students only.

Psychologists typically distinguish between two types of error: active errors and latent errors. Active errors are typically committed by front-line operators and their effects are felt almost immediately. On the other hand, latent errors arise from organisational issues and combine with other factors to create catastrophe.

It is these latter factors this seminar will focus on. We will see that in most disasters there was obvious prior warning. By viewing reconstructions of actual events, we will examine the flawed decision-making process that led to the Challenger and Columbia space shuttle disasters.

  • From: Wednesday 3 February 2016, 11 am
  • To: Wednesday 3 February 2016, 1 pm
  • Location: CHR425, Chaucer building, Nottingham Trent University, City Campus, Goldsmith Street, Nottingham, NG1 5LT
