First steps to success
Support for SMEs
We invite local small and medium organisations from the D2N2 area to learn about Enabling Innovation. This ERDF programme is aimed at boosting SME innovation and growth, and this introductory and diagnostic event will identify steps to success.

We invite local small and medium organisations from the D2N2 area (Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire) to get involved with the new Enabling Innovation programme.
Enabling Innovation is aimed at boosting SME innovation. The event will enable you to build an ongoing and collaborative relationship with Nottingham Trent University, make valuable contacts, meet like-minded business owners, and hear from leading business experts and academics.
The event will include the dynamic and interactive Steps to Success workshop lead by professional speaker Mark Shaw, a successful local businessman who runs the Nottingham marketing and branding company, Agility. Mark has previously worked for brands including Boots and Capital One. He has supported a variety of clients on both a local and global scale to advance and revitalise their brands, launch new products, and develop strong connections with their target audiences.
Steps to Success will focus on:
- identifying the key priorities, goals and approaches of your business
- introspective analysis regarding your customer base, future markets, sales and marketing and other topics
- identifying opportunities for collaborations and knowledge-sharing
- encouraging inter-team working techniques
- coaching and mentoring teams and individuals.
Delegates will leave the session with a bespoke supporting document, relevant to your business. This will contribute to the development of your strategic plan and your continuous working relationship with NTU and our Enabling Innovation programme.
This session includes refreshments and a networking lunch.
Following the event there is an opportunity for a limited number of delegates to receive a 30 minute one-to-one consultation from a University mentor. These sessions will take place from 1.30 - 3.30 pm and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. To book one of these mentor session please email us.
Enabling Innovation is a three-year collaboration between Nottingham Trent University, the University of Nottingham and the University of Derby. It is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
8.45 am: Registration, refreshments and networking
9.10 am: Introduction to Enabling Innovation - outline of available support, guidance, collaboration and funding.
9.30 am: Mark Shaw – Steps To Success – The Success Model
1.00 pm: Lunch and networking

There is an opportunity for a limited number of delegates to receive a 30 minute one-to-one consultation from a University mentor. These sessions will take place from 1.30 – 3.30 pm and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. To book one one these mentor session please email us.
This event is free to attend, but attendees must register in advance.
